Tough Decision coming at Rebel Choice Awards

The Rebel Choice Awards will be this Monday at the Ole Miss Pavilion. 2015 was one of the most prolific years in Ole Miss athletics history. The toughest award that will be given out this year by far will be coach of the year.

The three nominations this year are Hugh Freeze (football), Matt Mott (soccer) and Connie Price-Smith (Track and Field).

Matt Mott led the women’s soccer team to its best season in program history. This year the team advanced to its first ever sweet 16 appearance with a win over top ranked Clemson in a shootout.

“To be nominated amongst that group is really humbling and really special,” said Coach Mike Mott “I don’t think I should be coach of the year. I think whoever they vote for is great.”

The Ole Miss track team also had a historic season thanks to the hard work of Connie Price-Smith. Smith has the responsibilities of coaching the men’s and the women’s team track and field teams. She produced an all-american male in Ryan Walling and all-american female in Raven Saunders.

“Its an honor to be nominated,” said Coach Connie Price-Smith “When I look at the other nominees, it’s a tough field. Just to be nominated is really an honor.”

At least but not least Coach Hugh Freeze led the Ole Miss Rebels to a 10-3 record with wins over Louisiana State University, University of Alabama on the road, and a huge win over Oklahoma State in the Sugar Bowl.

Hugh Freeze was unavailable to comment because he is currently on the Rebel Road Trip right now.
“Hugh Freeze really changed Ole Miss football and put the football program back on the map,” said Freshman journalism student Jacob Duke “The back-to-back wins over Alabama has never been done before in program history. He’s produced a winning football program. That’s why he should be Coach of the Year.”
