Ole Miss Men’s Golf freshman standout Braden Thornberry will travel to Tuscaloosa, Alabama to compete as an individual in the NCAA Tuscaloosa Regional beginning May 16.

The regional, hosted by the University of Alabama, will be held at the par-72, 7,544-yard Ol’ Colony Golf Complex in Tuscaloosa.

In his freshman season, Thornberry led the Rebels with a stroke average of 72.24. He competed in all 11 tournaments in his breakout season and found the top 20 six times. The Southaven native earned his first career victory at the FAU Slomin Autism Invite, where he fired a career-low round of 67 in the second round to lead the Rebels to their first tournament title of the season. Thornberry added another individual first place finish at the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship and finished 12th at the SEC Championships.

“This is a great honor for Braden to achieve as a freshman,” Ole Miss head coach Chris Malloy said. “He has had a great year and his game is certainly trending in the right direction. We are excited to get back into competition and make a run at a national championship.”

Joining Thornberry in the individuals selected to participate in the regional include: David Kocher, University of Maryland; Wes Gosselin, University of Tennessee at Chattanooga; Andrew Novak, Wofford College; Franck Medale, Jacksonville University; Tom Harris, University of Maryland.

Teams competing in the Tuscaloosa Regional seeded in order include Georgia, Auburn, South Carolina, Alabama, Nevada, Kentucky, Kansas, College of Charleston, Lipscomb, Charleston Southern, Colorado, Harvard and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.

Five teams from each regional and one individual not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Championships, which will take place from May 27 to June 1 at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Oregon.
