A shooting occurred this afternoon outside of an Oxford gas station just steps away from the Oxford Police Department.

The police department responded to a call at about 4 p.m. of shots fired at the Chevron gas station located at 725 Molly Barr Road, according to a press release.

“It was reported that two males were fighting and shots were fired as they left the area,” the OPD press release said. “Officers worked quickly to locate and apprehend the suspect as well as the weapon within minutes of the call.”

The Chevron station is only 0.2 miles away from the Oxford Police Department — an approximately three minute drive.

OPD tweeted a photo at 4:36 p.m. from the parking lot of Star Package liquor store captioned “We currently have a possible suspect detained at this time.”

OPD declined to comment or provide further information about the shooting to The Daily Mississippian during a call on Thursday afternoon.
