The second annual Ole Miss RebelTHON benefiting Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis will be held Feb. 22 at the Jackson Avenue Center.

Organized as a dance-a-thon, the event raised $25,409.73 last spring to offer support to the hospital itself and families of patients.

Internal director Maia Cotelo, a sophomore international studies major, said she believes this year’s goal for RebelTHON is to show that it is different from other fundraising events.

“There are very few philanthropic events where you can actually interact with the families, and it is important to connect with the people being affected,” Cotelo said.

Participants can expect to participate in multiple themed hours and entertainment, according to Cotello.

The Holy Ghost Electric Show band will be featured alongside families visiting to tell their stories throughout the course of the evening.

There will be five meals catered by Old Venice, Taylor Grocery, Rib Cage, B’s Hickory Smoke BBQ and McEwen’s. There will also be other restaurants that provide snacks for the participants.

Kelly Scott, development coordinator at Le Bonheur’s Tupelo office, said she has enjoyed becoming involved in the event.

“It’s not about the money, it’s about the families and helping them,” said Scott, whose child received care at the age of two at Le Bonheur.

This year’s event will begin at 12 p.m. and end at 12 a.m.
