Yesterday at 11:36 a.m. the University Police Department issued a crime alert warning for students and employees to be on the lookout for student Byron Magee.

Magee, 22, is alleged to have committed an armed robbery in Jackson at a Kangaroo Express on 6154 Old Canton Road on Wednesday. The suspect entered the gas station carrying a shotgun. He fled the scene after taking an undisclosed amount of money and a cell phone. Detectives working on the case were able to identify Magee from video surveillance, according to a Jackson Police Department press release.

The Jackson Police Department has issued two arrest warrants for Magee. One is an Armed Robbery of a Business warrant and the other is an Armed Robbery of an Individual warrant.

UPD Chief of Police Calvin Sellers says the campus police department was notified about Magee sometime Thursday morning.

“No one has called with any information, and we still do not know his whereabouts,” Sellers said late Thursday afternoon.

According to the Ole Miss student directory, Magee is currently enrolled in the school of accountancy.

Magee is described as a black male who is 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs 160-185 pounds. He is believed to be driving a 2001 BMW 3251 with a Mississippi license plate number HPP-861.

UPD believes Magee is armed and urges those who see him to call 601-960-1234 or 662-915-4911.
