The University of Mississippi Police Department received a report of an attempted armed robbery Saturday, at approximately 12:30 a.m. The incident was reported to have occurred on Rebel Drive in front of Kincannon Hall, according to the crime alert released by UPD via email early Saturday morning.
In a statement to The Daily Mississippian around noon, UPD Chief Calvin Sellers said that the incident is still under investigation and no further information is available at this time.
In the report, the victim said he was walking south on Rebel Drive when a red vehicle, described as an early 2000 red Pontiac Coupe with a Lafayette County license plate, occupied by three black males pulled up beside him. The front and rear passengers exited the vehicle. The front passenger revealed what appeared to be a black semi-automatic pistol. The back passenger demanded that the victim hand over his money.
The victim was not harmed during the incident.
The report describes the suspects as three black males in their early 20s. The front passenger was approximately six feet, two inches tall, slender build, wearing a grey t-shirt and missing a front tooth. The rear seat passenger was approximately five feet, 10 inches tall, muscular build. He was wearing gold earrings, a grey beanie, black Nikes and white gym pants under dark colored jeans. The driver never exited the vehicle.
The suspects were last seen headed east on Northgate Drive.
