SEC Baseball Power Poll: The good, the bad and the Tennessee

  1. Florida – We had the opportunity to find out who the best team in the SEC was this weekend, as Florida and South Carolina took on each other in Columbia. They each won one and had a rain out, so your guess is as good as mine. Florida wins this week’s coin flip.
  2. South Carolina – Call tails next time.
  3. Texas A&M – The Aggies dropped a game against Arkansas this weekend and almost dropped another one. The Aggies didn’t play their best baseball this weekend, but they did what you’re supposed to do on the road against inferior teams: win the series. The Aggies’ schedule is tough now; they host Vanderbilt and Ole Miss and go to South Carolina to close the season.
  4. Mississippi State – The Bulldogs took two from Alabama this past weekend and probably should have swept. Mississippi State’s ace Dakota Hudson has struggled three weeks in a row, but they just continue to find ways to win baseball games.
  5. Ole Miss – Ole Miss is overshadowed right now. They’ve won eight of their last nine SEC games in Oxford, and are currently 10-3 in their last 13 SEC games. That’s not easy to do. The Rebels have set themselves up well to host a regional after starting off the SEC season at 2-6.
  6. Vanderbilt – The Commodores are weird. They swept Georgia this weekend and looked elite. The problem is, they somehow dropped a series to Tennessee the week before. The Commodores’ schedule isn’t getting easier the next two weeks as they have Texas A&M and Florida on the road.
  7. LSU – LSU dropped back-to-back series to Mississippi State and Ole Miss, respectively. LSU has had sub-par performances from Jared Poche the past two weekends, but it appears that Alex Lange has gotten back on track.
  8. Alabama – The Crimson Tide has really good pitching that can keep them in any competition. Alabama put itself in a position to take a series from Mississippi State, but couldn’t get the key hits in game 3. Alabama is a team to keep an eye on in the postseason with the dominant arms they have.
  9. Kentucky – I’m not sure how you lose a series to Auburn when you’ve had the type of year Kentucky has had, but the good news is they face South Carolina next week to get back on track. I’m kidding.
  10. Arkansas – Arkansas did look better this weekend against Texas A&M. Arkansas is not going to make the postseason. Arkansas is not a good baseball team.
  11. Georgia – Georgia has good front-line pitching that can keep them in their first two games on any weekend. Georgia doesn’t have much else. Georgia doesn’t have anything else.
  12. Auburn – I guess Auburn did take a series this weekend from Kentucky, so that is good for them. Auburn is still the worst infield defense I have ever seen.
  13. Missouri – I’m going to write some words about Missouri this week because they won a series. Congrats to the Tigers.
  14. Tennessee – HOW IN THE WORLD DO YOU TAKE TWO OF THREE FROM VANDERBILT THEN GET SHUT OUT BY A SWAC SCHOOL AND GET SWEPT BY MISSOURI? SOMEONE EXPLAIN THIS LUNACY.
