Starting linebacker Denzel Nkemdiche is in the hospital and will remain there. According to a joint statement from Nkemdiche’s parents, Beverly and Sunday Nkemdiche, and head coach Hugh Freeze, Nkemdiche will not play in Saturday’s game against LSU.
“Denzel’s condition has improved as of today, and he will remain in the hospital. His wellbeing is all that matters right now, and we are making sure he receives the highest level of medical care. While his condition is not life-threatening, he will not play this weekend. We thank the Ole Miss family for their concern and encouragement, and we appreciate everyone respecting the family’s privacy during this time.”
Nkemdiche has started at linebacker for four years for the Rebels. Nkemdiche will be absent from the senior night activities that will proceed the contest vs. LSU.
Nkemdiche leads the team in tackles with 53 tackles, including 6.5 tackles for loss.
