Three true freshmen help provide spark for the team.

The Ole Miss softball team is off to its best start in school history with an overall record of 28-10 and a conference record of 4-5. What has been the big difference this year? Part of the answer is three freshman.

“There’s more pride to being part of the process rather than being part of what’s already been made,” said freshman outfielder Kylan Becker. “Hopefully if we make this program get better, were part of history.

Kylan Becker isn’t the only freshman on the team trying to change the dynamics. Shortstop Hailey Lunderman is second on the team with a .422 batting average.

“We really want to build the program,” said Lunderman “In the past it hasn’t been as well as it is now. We’ve been working really hard and its been a really good freshman class. We just produce.”

Freshman utility player Ashton Lampton didn’t expect to be playing so early on in her career but is embracing the role.

“From the time of me being a little girl this is all I’ve dreamed of,” said Lampton “It actually still kind of feels unreal. Its exciting. I love giving what I have every single game to play this sport and with the girls that I have. I couldn’t ask for a better team.”

The Ole Miss softball team will take on the # 2 ranked Florida Gators this weekend at home.
