Thirty graduate history students added their support to the recent call for change in the Confederate statue contextual plaque, echoing the sentiments of a statement released from history department faculty and the UM NAACP earlier this month. The plaque, placed March 17 without official ceremony, was made to contextualize a potentially contentious statue, but many say they do not think it does so. Following the release of the plaque text, several groups have voiced their concern. History faculty made a petition, which has gathered nearly 600 signatures by the morning of Thursday, April 7.
