The Sarah Isom Center released the following statement in regards to House Bill 1523:
The Sarah Isom Center for Women and Gender Studies is deeply disappointed by Governor Bryant’s decision to sign House Bill 1523 into law. HB 1523 countenances the expressions of homophobia, transphobia, sexism, and discrimination that already affect LGBTQ Mississippians—our families, our community, our students, our neighbors, our colleagues, and our friends. The Sarah Isom Center and its affiliates stand in solidarity with all individuals affected by the passage of this hostile legislation and pledge to work to undo it.
