The City of Oxford will hold its general election on June 3 to select representatives for the Board of Aldermen and the mayor.
Current Oxford Mayor Pat Patterson qualified for re-election in the first two days that residents could apply for the nomination.
City Clerk Lisa Carwyle said that as of Jan. 22, incumbent Mayor Patterson is the only resident to qualify to seek election for the position.
Oxford residents have until March 8 to file applications for candidacy in this summer’s municipal election.
Residents who wish to run in the municipal election must be registered voters in the ward they are seeking to represent, except for those who are pursuing an at-large seat, and cannot have been convicted of a crime punishable by prison sentence or a felony. Financial reports from each candidates’ campaign are also required.
With partisan elections, primaries may be necessary to determine which candidates will be representing the Republican and Democratic parties in the general election. If necessary, primary elections will be held May 7.
Six representatives of the Board of Aldermen will be elected in this cycle, and a seventh alderman will be elected to represent the city at large.
The mayor and aldermen serve four-year terms.
