Editor-in-Chief – Slade Rand

Slade Rand is a senior journalism major from New Orleans. He’s worked at The Daily Mississippian since his freshman year and wrote his favorite story in spring 2017 about John ‘Jojo’ Hermann’s return to the Square. Slade enjoys iced coffee, live music and boxer dogs.

Managing Editor – Devna Bose

Devna Bose is a senior majoring in print journalism and minoring in English and psychology. She’s from Philadelphia, Mississippi, and has been working at The Daily Mississippian since her freshman year as a writer, photographer and lifestyles editor. Copy Chief – David Nowicki

David Nowicki is a senior from Madison who is majoring in psychology and mathematics. He has worked at The Daily Mississippian for one year as a copy editor. If he could be any fictional character he would be Luke Cage, and three things that he couldn’t live without are San Antonio Spurs basketball, his cats and hip-hop/rap music.

News Editor – Blake Alsup

Blake Alsup is a senior majoring in print journalism and minoring in Southern studies. He’s from Ripley and has worked for The Daily Mississippian since his junior year as a writer and assistant news editor. His favorite Vine is “Oh my God, he on X Games mode,” and he enjoys going to concerts, spinning vinyl records and reading The New York Times.

Taylor Vance is a senior majoring in print journalism and minoring in political science. He’s from Grenada and has been working at the The Daily Mississippian as a news writer since his junior year. His favorite Vine is “Fat and sassy,” and he likes coffee, crazy socks and anything related to Parks and Recreation.

Assistant News Editor – Brittany Brown

Brittany Brown is a senior majoring in broadcast journalism and minoring in Spanish. She’s from Quitman and has written for The Daily Mississippian since her sophomore year. Her favorite Blue Bell ice cream flavor is Cookies ‘n Cream and her favorite Vine is “LeBron James.”

Lifestyles Editor – Liam Nieman

Liam Nieman is a junior from Mount Gretna, Pennsylvania, who is majoring in English and Southern studies. He has been writing editorial and lifestyles articles for The Daily Mississippian since his freshman year. He likes to order a big double burger, Cajun fries, a ranch chicken wrap and an Oreo milkshake when he’s at Cook Out. He likes Southern literature, menswear Instagram pages and pretzels.

Sports Editor – Justin Dial

Justin Dial is a senior majoring in journalism and minoring in history. He is a native of Olive Branch and has been a sports writer for The Daily Mississippian since his sophomore year. His favorite Vine is “My name’s Trey and I got a basketball game tomorrow.” Three things that make him happy are playing pool, scrolling through Twitter and Atlanta Braves baseball.

Assistant Sports Editor – Ben Miller

Ben Miller is a sophomore majoring in international studies and minoring in both Russian and intelligence and security studies. He is from Gurnee, Illinois, and became assistant sports editor after spending his freshman year writing for the sports section. If he could be any fictional character he would be Mayor of Whoville Augustus Maywho, and three things that make him happy are Granny Smith apples, the Netherlands and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Christian Johnson is a junior majoring in print journalism and minoring in political science. He’s from Kennett, Missouri, and has worked for The Daily Mississippian as a photographer since his sophomore year. His favorite episode of The Office is “Threat Level Midnight,” and his favorite flavor of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream is Phish Food.

Design Editor – Hayden Benge

Hayden Benge is a senior integrated marketing communications major with minors in business and political science. She is from Tulsa, Oklahoma, and has been working at The Daily Mississippian since her freshman year as a designer. She enjoys coffee, long walks that are not on the beach and podcasts about the Supreme Court. If she was a fictional character, she would be Stitch, but she’s not great at making his noises.

Opinion and Design Editor – Ethel Mwedziwendira

Ethel Mwedziwendira is a senior print journalism and political science major from McKinney, Texas, and has been working at The Daily Mississippian since her freshman year as a columnist and designer. If she was a fictional character, she would be Nala from the Lion King because the character reminds her of her Zimbabwean and Malawian roots. Her favorite Vine is “Ummm, I’ve never been to OoVoo Javar.”

Sarah Henderson is a senior majoring in print journalism and minoring in digital media studies. She is from San Angelo, Texas, and started working at The Daily Mississippian at the end of her junior year. Sarah loves naps, Whataburger honey butter chicken biscuits and Tex-Mex food, and her favorite Vine is “Look at all those chickens.”

Ivana Nguyen is a senior majoring in marketing and corporate relations. She is from Southaven and is in her first year at the Daily Mississippian as social media editor. Her favorite Vine is “An avocado? Thankssss.” She is a firm believer that chicken tenders are better than chicken nuggets.
