AS IF MIDDLE SCHOOL COULD GET MORE DRAMATIC
This week in Columbus, Paul Marcus Jackson, affectionately known as “Wall,” was arrested at the local middle school. Jackson was indicted by a federal jury on counts of money laundering and drug charges. The eighth grade teacher was one of seven others found guilty of conspiring to possess and sell methamphetamine, along with charges of money laundering. The case was investigated by the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics along with the Drug Enforcement Agency. According to The Clarion-Ledger, the drugs were going to be purchased in California and sold in a “methamphetamine distribution network.”
THAT CAN ONLY MEAN ONE THING
A different kind of “hotline bling.” At least 350 Mississippi citizens in Jackson County received jury duty this week with an unexpected twist. The jury summons listed an incorrect phone number resulting in the potential jurors calling a sex hotline. According to the Associated Press, Circuit Clerk Randy Carney has received serious heat for the mix-up. Carney said he was completely unaware of what caused the mix-up, but has sent letters of apology to all who were affected.
ALWAYS LOW PRICES, ALWAYS EVACUATE
On Monday, the Columbus Police Department reported a bomb threat at the Columbus Walmart. After receiving a phone call about an alleged bomb, the store evacuated its customers and employees while authorities searched the store. Walmart reopened to the public about 30 minutes after the evacuation. According to WAPT News, the Columbus Police discovered that an elementary-aged child was the brains behind the bomb threat. The child called in the threat over the phone, an action that would normally be charged as a felony. However, children under 15 years of age are exempted from being convicted as felons. The case is going to be further investigated in the juvenile court system.
LIL SEBASTIAN, IS THAT YOU?
A new horse is gaining national attention this week. According to KFVS News, a video of Michael Gascon from Poplarville has become the new internet sensation. A fifth-generation horseman and his stallion, Tito, posted a video that went viral on Tuesday. The video features Gascon riding Tito while wearing a T-rex costume. The video had over 800,000 views on Facebook in about seven hours. Tito is apparently no stranger to fame, having starred in the movie “A Fine Step” and also spending time as a national grand champion show horse. Gascon bought Tito around six years ago, and has been making videos for about a year in hopes of one going viral.
