Oxford and Lafayette County law enforcement officials are investigating a pair of deaths in separate locations that seem to constitute an incident of murder/suicide.
At approximately 9:30 a.m., Oxford Police officers responded to a call on St. Andrews Circle regarding a welfare concern. At approximately the same time the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department was responding to a call on County Road 105 about a possible suicide.
Once both separate scenes were determined safe and the surrounding area was secured, the two law enforcement agencies initiated a joint investigation. Preliminary information indicates that the incident is an apparent murder/suicide of two associated individuals, according to Oxford Police Chief Joey East. The investigation has determined that the two individuals, Michael Orange and Sharon Pegues Orange, were killed by gunshot.
The incident is considered an ongoing investigation and no further details are available at this time. As more information is gathered, Oxford Police Department and Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office will distribute it to the media.
