Ole Miss Students for a Green Campus in conjunction with Ole Miss GreenWeek will host a three-part panel, “The Color of Environmental Racism,” at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Bryant Hall. There is a reception preceding the event at 5:30 p.m. in the same location.

This presentation will examine environmental justice and define its involvement and history with people of color.

The panel, which will be moderated by Ross Haenfler from the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, will consist of Rita Harris and Melissa McGhee-Collier. Harris, organizer for the Sierra Club, has been fighting for environmental justice in Memphis since the early 1990s. McGhee-Collier has been a part of the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) since she joined in 1995. She was promoted to the position of director for MDEQ’s Office of Community Engagement in 2010 where she is responsible for overseeing the agency’s community engagement strategy.
