A small birthday celebration of about 12 people was quickly interrupted when the pool’s retaining wall collapsed at Faulkner Flats.

Tim Reeves, Oxford resident, said It happened very quickly, and the entire situation is surreal.

“I hear like a shaking and all of these rocks and concrete blocks start falling down in a huge pile. It happened in probably 10 seconds,” Reeves said. “The girls were screaming and we ran, it was crazy just how quickly it happened.”

Reeves said they just finished taking a group photo about a minute before the wall collapsed.

Only a few people had scratches on their legs and the girl sitting next to him had some of her belongings crushed, according to Reeves.

Reeves said if he and his friends had not jumped into the water and out of the way “the rocks would have been on top of us.”

“The entire wall started collapsing down and literally broke the tables,” Reeves said. “Nobody was seriously injured at all which is crazy.”

Reeves said it took a manager about 20 minutes to arrive at the pool. The group left so the complex could inspect the area.

“They didn’t ask us any questions,” Reeves said. “They didn’t ask if we were okay.”

An employee at Faulkner Flats declined to comment and asked the reporter to “leave the premises” and to contact Heritage Properties.

“The wall has been inspected and secured with repairs underway,” Michelle Ford, marketing director for Heritage Properties said.  “The health and safety of our residents and their guests is our number one concern and we are relieved that there were only minor injuries.”
