The UM Faculty Senate voted in approval of a joint passage of Associated Student Body’s resolution calling for the University to cease flying the state flag on campus Thursday.

ASB’s resolution passed in a meeting Tuesday night. Less than 24 hours after ASB’s passage, the Executive Council of the Faculty Senate called an Extraordinary Meeting to consider the joint passage.

Since the resolution passed in the ASB multiple other campus organizations have publically shown their support of the University removing the Mississippi flag from campus.

The Sigma Nu fraternity took the flag flying at their house on campus down the same night the resolution passed. The Staff Council released a statement the following day saying they support the removal of the flag until it is representative of all Mississippians. The Graduate Student Council Executive Officers also released a statement in support of the resolution.

Despite all of the public support and joint passage of Resolution 15-13 with both the ASB and Faculty Senate, the UM administration is who holds the power to take down the flag.
