On behalf of the Associated Student Body, I’d like to personally express a warm welcome to the students of Ole Miss. Welcome to a university home full of opportunity and verve – I’m certain that we are all ready to embark on another year long journey in our collegiate experience. Whether you are an entering freshman or a returning senior, the University of Mississippi is happy to have you back.
The Associated Student Body is charged with a mission to serve selflessly and to represent justly the student body in accordance with the University of Mississippi’s Creed by prioritizing students’ interests and needs above personal ambition and prejudice. With that comes a commitment from ASB to develop initiatives that support each and every student’s endeavors, whether those be academic, professional, cultural or social. We strive to engage the student voice and elevate it to a platform of legitimacy in the widest scope possible.
Just as ASB has a mission to serve selflessly and represent justly, it is imperative that the students of Ole Miss are committed to a similar goal. This year, ASB hopes to embellish each of its initiatives with a devotion to the entire Lafayette-Oxford-University community. This means that we hope to close the gap between not only city leadership and student leadership but also between the broader community as a whole. The burden of effort lies on the entire student body, however, as we are all LOU Rebels. ASB seeks to ensure that students have a voice at the table in every sphere of leadership, from the Lyceum to City Hall, and we hope to excite the student body to raise its concerns and become more involved. We encourage the students of the University of Mississippi to integrate themselves into the pulse of the community through volunteering, working and communicating.
Finally, in conjunction with uniting the entire community, I personally hope to leave a legacy of servant leadership that imprints on the minds of each and every member of the Ole Miss family so as to inspire the next generation of leaders. I hope to be held accountable throughout my term, and I hope to make the student body proud. It is important to remember that the University of Mississippi and the town of Oxford will continue to grow long after we are gone. So through this next year, reflect on how you will give back to your classmates, your community members and the university. The Associated Student Body strives to challenge itself and the student body to live the Creed, to serve selflessly and to remember that we are all LOU Rebels.
