For almost any student at The University of Mississippi, an event offering free admission, refreshments and a taste of genuine Oxford culture will spark some interest. One such event is the Oxford Art Crawl, which will be held tonight from 7-9 p.m. This will be the first of the monthly art crawls the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council will host this spring.
The Oxford Art Crawl is hosted by the Arts Council. It features different artists and their work at each event. Stops on tonight’s art crawl include Southside Gallery, the Powerhouse, Cicada and The University of Mississippi Museum and Gallery 130 in Meek Hall.
Wayne Andrews, Director of the Arts Council, said the Oxford Art Crawl provides an ideal environment for a group of friends with refreshments and an overall atmosphere of genuine Oxford culture.
“The great thing about this is that you can go see the stops you want to,” he said.
Andrews said the art crawl showcases many talented Ole Miss students.
“These are gonna be the next wave of artists,” he said.
The goal behind this event is to get people to understand and appreciate the culture in Oxford. The art crawl has seen as many as 500 people in one night. To local restaurants’ delight, it fills tables on an otherwise slow Tuesday night.
The exhibits change with each art crawl, so if you miss this one, there’s always next month.
