Coming off a disappointing 66-31 loss to Texas this past week, Ole Miss bounced back in a big way in a 39-0 win against Tulane in New Orleans on Saturday, the Rebels’ first shutout since a 45-0 win against Mississippi State in 2008.

Ole Miss out-gained Tulane 450-159, including 304-14 on the ground. The Rebels were 10-of-16 on third-down conversions, while Tulane was 2-of-16 on third-down conversions.

However, it was far from a perfect performance with two failed two-point conversions on the first two scoring drives and six fumbles, three of which were lost.

The Rebels dominated early, outgaining the Green Wave 183-14 on the way to a 26-0 first-quarter lead.

Turnovers and sloppy play plagued Ole Miss in the second quarter with two fumbles, both of which were lost, and the teams went into halftime with the same score of 26-0.

Bo Wallace fumbled again on the second play of the second half, and Barry Brunetti played most of the rest of the half for the Rebels. Wallace was 7-of-16 for 101 yards and a touchdown, while Brunetti was 5-of-7 for 45 yards.

Brunetti led a 15-play, 80-yard scoring drive, capped by a Jeff Scott 4-yard touchdown run, his second score of the game. He finished the game as the team’s leading rusher with 67 yards on 13 carries, followed by Scott with 62 yards on 11 carries.

Bryson Rose added field goals of 40 and a career-long 47 yards to extend the lead to 39-0. Helped by a personal foul penalty and a pass interference penalty, Tulane drove to the Ole Miss 3-yard line in the closing minutes before Chief Brown intercepted a pass in the end zone to preserve the shutout.
