In this week’s Word on the Street, students told The DM about their first month back at school.
“It’s been a great week but definitely a whirlwind after summer. My favorite part has been all the welcome week activities that SAA has done. It makes campus more homey, and it’s fun to come back to.”
Elizabeth Gunn, a junior hospitality management major from Birmingham, Alabama
“It’s been interesting to walk around campus and find the places I didn’t know were there last semester. I have three kids, so it’s been great getting out and doing something different.”
Jody Evans, a junior recreation management major from Pontotoc
“I should have bought a parking pass because I’ve already fallen off my bike twice. That’s my best advice. Also, genetics is hard.”
Danny Nicole Howell, a sophomore biology major from Meridian
“I like the location. It’s my first time in the U.S., and I love everything about this university. The people here are helpful and humble and funny.”
Sayantan Saha, an electrical engineering graduate student from Kolkata, India
“Just being back with the students and the atmosphere has been great, and we do have football, in case anyone has forgotten. We have to root for the kids, wish them the best and be there for them.”
P.J. Sheffield, a senior general studies major from Saltillo
“It’s been very interesting because we didn’t start up school the same way we did last year. We had Wiz, and the professors have been wonderful. It’s easy getting around class because they’ve toned up security. It feels wonderful with all the groups coming out to greet us.”
Timothy Spivey Jr., a sophomore criminal justice major from Itta Bena
