Spring has sprung, and a great way to kick off the season is by visiting the annual Oxford Flea Market on April 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event was organized by Oxford locals Liz and Benjy Foster and will be located at the Old Armory Pavilion on University Avenue.

The flea market will have an eclectic mix of all sorts of goods from local vendors such as handmade furniture, collectibles, vintage children’s clothing, toys, retro items, jewelry, fried pies, Ole Miss décor and much more. The market will play host to even more niche items, like custom-made egg rolls and bird houses made of gourds and tea cups. The Oxford Flea Market has such a diverse group of items for purchase that there’s probably something for everybody.

“Oxford is a great place to start a business and be creative. By supporting local vendors from Oxford and the surrounding areas who sell at Oxford Flea, we’re showing them that Oxford is a safe place to show their creativity and entrepreneurship,” Liz Foster said.

The Oxford Flea Market is a great way to be more in touch with the Oxford community by supporting local businesses. The flea market gives smaller local businesses a chance to get their names and ideas out to the public. The flea market is also an opportunity for out-of-state students and residents to really connect with their Oxonian neighbors.

“You’re not going to find the types of items you’d find at Oxford Flea at a thrift store,” Liz Foster said. “More importantly, you can’t interact with the vendors or your neighbors or enjoy the sunshine. Don’t get me wrong – I love thrift shopping, but it’s a completely different experience when you can shop outside from a large group of vendors selling a variety of wares.”

The start of spring marks spring cleaning for some people, but for others, it’s the time for spring shopping. Searching for new dorm room or home treasures with a group of friends at the flea market is a great way to kick off this beginning of the season. With all the outdoor events coming up in Oxford, the flea market may have the perfect accessory or outfit piece.

“Oxford Flea can certainly be considered a start to the festival season,” Foster said. “The flurry of markets and festivals ramps up at the start of April, and it takes everything we’ve got just to keep up with them. Benjy and I are happy to be a part of it.”
