The Associated Student Body held a meeting on Tuesday night in Lamar Hall, where the Senate voted unanimously on a Voter’s Registration Bill in an attempt to help freshmen exercise their right to vote.
“This resolution intends to get incoming freshmen involved in the political process,” ASB Senator Allen Coon said.
Freshmen visiting the campus will now be encouraged to register to vote at a table set up during Rebel Roundup during their orientation session. This resolution will also aid in educating students on relevant voting laws.
The Senate also selected nominees for ‘Senator of the Year’ during the session.
Senators gave brief speeches convincing their peers why they should be selected. Senator Bella Gonzalez, Senator Josh Tucker and Senator Coon were among the ones who presented. The winner will be announced at the ASB Banquet.
Senator Sam Fowlkes apologized to the Senate regarding the recent events that occurred at Sigma Chi’s Derby Days. He said the behavior displayed at Derby Days was unacceptable and simply should not have happened.
“We are going to make a change,” Folkes said.
