On Feb. 24, 2017, at about 7:35 pm, Oxford Police Department responded to an assault with a firearm in an area of Pegues Road. The victim, who had a gunshot wound to his leg, reported two black males approached him asking for a cigarette. At that time, the two suspects pulled firearms in an attempt to rob him of money and jewelry. When the victim refused, one of the suspects fired his weapon and shot the victim in his leg. Both suspects fled on foot. Although OPD set up a perimeter of the area for a search, the search was unsuccessful. Transported to Baptist Memorial Hospital, the victim obtained non-life threatening injuries and thus was released shortly after transport.
The department is currently investigating the incident and asks anyone with information to contact the investigation division at 232-2400 or Crime Stoppers at 234-8477.
