The Grove’s atmosphere buzzed with children laughing and playing while weaving between the crowds of listeners humming away to Luke Fisher and his crew on stage Sunday night. Fisher and his band know how to cater to many types of music lover while on stage or behind the scenes, and they showcased it during their performance in the Grove as a part of the Summer Sunset Series.
This performance was unique for Fisher and his team because he, who is usually in charge of audio for other bands performing on Sunday evenings, was the one onstage making the music, looking out into the singing faces of the crowd.
“It’s always a great environment,” Fisher said. “There are 300, 400, sometimes 500 people here. We were just very glad to get a chance to play instead of running around hooking up the wires this evening.”
Audience members were sitting down in the grass with loved ones or standing up and dancing with friends to the live music while the sun set.
“It’s just an accepting, loving crowd,” Fisher said. “We have fun playing for them. I know a lot of people, and a lot of people I love were in this crowd.”
With an exciting list of bands lined up to perform at the Grove for the remainder of the summer, Fisher is ready to be back behind the scenes this weekend with Black Water Trio.
“Black Water Trio is coming next week, and they are phenomenal,” Fisher said. “They are a band that if they stick together, you will hear about them. They are real good.”
To top off the evening in true Southern style, a friend from the crowd greeted Fisher and his band members by the stage with a blackberry pie. Southern hospitality, Oxford charm and sweet live music combined to make Luke Fisher and his band’s performance in the Grove truly one of a kind.
