Artists Fred Nice, Silas Reed, Flyrich Double and many more will perform original music at Proud Larry’s this Thursday, reviving the Oxford Square after a weeklong Thanksgiving break.
This collaborative concert event, “Issa Lit Thursday,” put together by Nice, an Oxford local, celebrates music and provides a stage for many notable artists.
Nice has a long history of creating music that started when he began compiling beats and making songs at the age of 16 using his mother’s computer at their kitchen table. Nice gained exposure after he graduated high school with the hooks and passages he made for various producers.
Nice has worked with high-profile producers such as Vybe Beatz (Meek Mill, Migos), TrakkSounds (Young Dolph, Starlito, Z-Ro), DJ Pain 1 (Pusha T, Young Buck, Gucci Mane) and many more. He has also written and produced songs for Money Man, Ca$h Out and Rasheeda of “Love and Hip Hop: Atlanta.”
Nice has since moved on to record mostly himself, and he said it has become a little tedious to produce sounds for a large number of artists. He now reaches out to local hip-hop, R&B and rap artists who he feels should be heard more by inviting them to Issa Lit Thursday.
Issa Lit Thursday will feature artists from across Mississippi who will take the stage to perform their own music and covers, including Dre Sweat & KJG, Fly Rich Double, Silas Reed, LCB Loud Pak and Vitamin Cea.
“I want to be able to shed some light on their music,” Nice said. “These artists are for a younger a crowd, and I feel like they should be heard.”
Nice is not new to performing in any of the Oxford Square venues. He says he is looking forward to the event and playing alongside these talented artists with whom he has bumped shoulders or collaborated. For example, he has played alongside Ole Miss alumnus Silas Reed for various shows.
“I’ve performed with Silas Reed before. He used to be on the Oxford Square all the time, so I would call him up to play. It’s only right to share the stage with him again.”
Nice said he reached out to Carradine to perform after a friend of his asked why he didn’t play locally more often. Nice has recently come out with a new mixtape, “Way 2 Nice,” and he is excited to be able to showcase some of his new music for Issa Lit Thursday. This will be the first time he will be featured as a headliner on the Oxford Square for Issa Lit Thursday.
Nice said the name for Issa Lit Thursday was inspired by how alive the Oxford Square becomes on Thursday nights.
“It’s always lit on Thursdays. This will be the last Thursday of the semester, so everyone will already be out and looking for a good time,” Nice said. “Come to the show, check us out and get to know us better.”
Issa Lit Thursday will be this Thursday at Proud Larry’s. The doors will open at 8 p.m., and the show will start at 9 p.m.
