Ah … Valentine’s Day. You either hate it or love it. Those of us who hate it, it’s probably because we’re single, but these five movies will turn your cold heart warm, mushy and hopeful to meet your special someone.
The Notebook (2004)
I’m sure everyone has seen this movie at least once. For those of you who haven’t watched it, take note of what Noah (Ryan Gosling) does when he writes Allie (Rachel McAdams) 365 letters for a year. Sometimes we meet people and once they’re a part of our lives, we hold them down for as long as we can. This romantic movie shows you that no matter how little or how much money you have, it’s all irrelevant when it comes to love, even when you’re from two different worlds and have nothing in common. Sometimes, some people are just meant to be in each other’s lives, even if everyone around them disagrees.
Valentine’s Day (2010)
This star-studded movie is about six different Valentine’s Day stories. It shows all of the love, the hurt and the healing in relationships. This movie will teach you that when you are in love, you have to accept the other person for who he or she is. This includes not just the good but also the bad, even if that someone ends up being like Liz (Anne Hathaway), the phone sex operator. It also shows you that sometimes the person you’re meant to be with has been there the whole time. This movie will give hope to those of you who hate Valentine’s Day as much as Kara (Jessica Biel). You never know who will come into your life unexpectedly.
The Vow (2012)
Leo (Channing Tatum) is one of the main characters. Do you need any other reason to watch this movie? If you want a way to help release some stress, I got you. The reason I say this is because crying helps you release stress, and the movie will have you dropping tears without even knowing it. This movie might leave you thinking that there is such a thing as a soul mate, even when the worst thing possible happens to your significant other, like losing her memory and waking up not knowing who you are. This movie is an eye-opener for those of you who give up on a person. Find yourself a Leo – he won’t give up on you, no matter how hard the situation is.
How to Be Single (2015)
To all my single ladies (and men), this is the perfect comfort movie for you. It shows you how to be confident with yourself as a single person. It also gives tips on the right way to be single. Yes, this includes the way Robin (Rebel Wilson) lives her single life. You will realize that it’s OK to not be in a relationship, because it gives you time to do the things you never got to do while being with someone. But it also shows those hard little moments of being lonely. You will realize that being single is important because it helps you become independent. You even learn the small things, including unzipping your own dress like Alice (Dakota Johnson).
Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy (2015, 2017, 2018)
Contrary to popular belief, these movies aren’t just smut – they are also about how a love can change a person. Christian (Jamie Dornan) falls in love with Anastasia (Dakota Johnson), which is a first for him. This movie will definitely give you hope if you’re talking to someone like that. If he or she is the one, the walls will eventually come down.
So, if you hate Valentine’s Day because you haven’t found “the one,” don’t give up. One day, you’ll get the chocolate candy, oversized teddy bear and best of all, a love that will always fight for you. But for now, grab your popcorn and your friends and binge-watch these movies.
