Playlist of the week: Mumford and Sons

Posted on Nov 27 2018 - 5:50am by Adam Dunnells

Two weeks ago, Mumford & Sons released its 4th studio album, “Delta.” To coincide with our review of the band’s new album, this week’s playlist will be a tribute to it and the band as a whole. While Mumford & Sons’ style isn’t for everyone, hopefully this playlist of songs they’ve covered, covers of their songs and originals, will allow everyone to find something to enjoy.

  1. “If I Say” — Mumford & Sons

  1. “I Will Wait” — 2CELLOS

  1. “Someone Saved My Life Tonight” — Elton John

Mumford & Sons has covered a lot of famous artists and songs over the years. In 2018, as part of the album “Revamp: The Songs of Elton John and Bernie Taupin,” Mumford & Sons covered this Elton John song from the 1970s.

  1. “Ditmas” — Mumford & Sons

  1. “The Cave” — Jake Weber

  1. “Hopeless Wanderer” — Academical Village People

  1. “Tessellate” — alt-J

  1. “Little Lion Man” — Tonight Alive and Dave Petrovic

Released on volume four of the infamous “Punk Goes Pop” series, this punk-pop cover of perhaps Mumford & Sons’ most famous song was many people’s first introduction to the band, myself included. This is also the only cover on this list sung by a female vocalist, Jenna McDougall, and she does a good job.

  1. “Lover of the Light” — Mumford & Sons

  1. “The Cave” — Jake Coco

  1. “Awake My Soul” — Bluegrass Players

  1. “I Will Wait” — Vitamin String Quartet

  1. “The Boxer” — Simon and Garfunkel

Though Mumford & Sons has covered many artists, this cover is probably the band’s most famous. This version of “The Boxer” was released on the Mumford & Sons album “Babel,” but this is Simon and Garfunkel’s 1969 hit about dealing with loneliness.

  1. “Little Lion Man” — Hyannis Sound

  1. “42” — Mumford & Sons
