HE’LL TAKE YOU TO THE LIQUOR SHOP
Grammy-winning rapper 50 Cent visited Ferdie’s Liquor Store in Meridian yesterday on a promotion tour for his new line of liquor, Effen Vodka. According WTOK-TV, from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday the rapper spent time at the store, located on Highway 19 North. Rumor has it he was signing bottles for his fans. This is not the first visit the rapper has made. For the past few weeks, he has been visiting liquor stores across the country promoting his new product. He was in Montgomery, Alabama on Wednesday. 50 Cent did not name the vodka for the reasons you might think. Two quarters for his thoughts? According to People, the rapper named the vodka ‘Effen’ because it means ‘smooth’ in Dutch. “But I know my audience and I know what they’re gonna do. And they’re gonna have fun with that name,” 50 Cent said. It’s like you can hear a lyric change already… ‘we gon’ sip Effen like it’s yo birthday.’
8-MILLI 8-MILLI 8-MILLI
On Monday, former Mississippi Corrections commissioner Christopher Epps learned his bribery case expanded from $300 million to $800 million. According to WAPT News, Epps was set to plead guilty in the case Monday before learning the case had been expanded. Epps plead guilty in February to money laundering and filing false tax returns related to $1.47 million in bribes that he is accused of taking. He’s what you would call a corrupt corrections commissioner. Try that 5 times fast. More indictments are possible, but opposing counsel is already confused as to why the amount changed drastically already. “The question is, if they were so confident now that it’s $800 million, why would they represent that it was $300 million in the first place?” opposing attorney, Carlos Tanner, said. That is a large amount of money to have your name attached to, and not in a good way.
A WOMAN, A BIBLE AND TOBACCO WALK INTO A JAIL
This week in Booneville, 51-year-old Sandy Reece was charged with two counts of introduction of contraband into a correctional facility. Translation? Reece smuggled drugs straight into a prison. And according to the Clarion Ledger, Reece chose a unlikely method of transport. After inspection, jail employees found tobacco and a fentanyl patch hidden inside a Bible that Reece was trying to drop off with an inmate. Reece has been taken into custody. Maybe she thought she wouldn’t get in as much trouble if she used a Bible has her means of transportation? I don’t know.
WHEN YOU PACK HEAT
As in actually pack it in your purse. According to WDAM News, the emergency room at Merit Health Central hospital saw a strange turn of events Wednesday morning. The Jackson Police Department reported that a mother dropped her purse while standing by a vending machine in the hospital while standing next to her 2-year-old daughter. When the purse dropped, the gun inside her purse went off. The bullet ricocheted off the vending machine and grazed the child on the right side of her face. The child’s injuries are non-life-threatening. The case is still under investigation, but at this point it is ruled as an accident. Weapons are prohibited at Merit Health Central.
