Last week was significant for Atlanta-based music festival Music Midtown. Not only did tickets go on sale for the event, but a phenomenal lineup was announced. The lineup is a sure sign Music Midtown is once again established since returning only three years ago after a six-year hiatus.

For those unfamiliar with the festival, Music Midtown is held annually at Piedmont Park in Atlanta. The two-day event is typically held at the beginning of fall. Music Midtown is unique because of its lineup. Popular artists tend to always headline the event, but well-known Georgia-based artists also have a strong presence at Music Midtown.

This year, Music Midtown will be held on Friday, September 19, and Saturday, September 20. Of course, Piedmont Park will be jammed-packed during these short two days.

This year, headlining artists include Eminem, John Mayer, Lorde, Lana Del Rey, Jack White, Run DMC, Zac Brown Band, Iggy Azalea, Gregg Allman and Bastille. The list continues with B.o.B, Fitz and the Tantrums, NEEDTOBREATHE, Mayer Hawthorne and others.

The lineup indicates that Music Midtown is growing into a festival which deserves a special spot on any music lover’s calendar. Instead of a small handful of major artists selected for the event, 2014’s Music Midtown brings an entire plethora of artists which are well-known to a diverse range of audiences.

Another perk of Music Midtown is its location. Located just northwest of the heart of Atlanta, the festival gives concertgoers multiple options for restaurants, lodging and other attractions. The metropolitan landscape gives Music Midtown an urban feel, while still maintaining a laid-back atmosphere.

Students here at Ole Miss would find Music Midtown especially appealing. Atlanta is only a five-hour drive from Oxford, and has plenty of attractions, from Atlantic Station, an outdoor mall, to the Georgia Aquarium, one of the largest aquariums in the world.

Music Midtown is a stark contrast from festivals typically frequented by Ole Miss students. You will not find any isolated fields or campers, but instead a diverse crowd of all ages and walks of life. The atmosphere is refreshing and a pleasant change from most music festivals.

To see the fantastic artists and bands performing at Music Midtown, tickets can be purchased in the form of two-day passes. The cost for general admission passes is $125 each.
