College Station, Texas- In what many considered to be a let down game for Ole Miss coming off the win over Alabama, there was no disappointment as Ole Miss took a big lead early and defeated Texas A&M 35-20.
In front of the largest crowd in the history of the Southeastern Conference and largest attendance for a football game in the history of the state of Texas, the Rebels showed no fear and played like a team with plenty of experience in front of a hostile environment.
Although being out gained 455 yards to 338 yards by Texas A&M, the Rebels forced three turnovers and didn’t turn the ball over on offense. The Rebels also rushed 160 yards compared to the 54 yards on the ground for Texas A&M.
Ole Miss got on the board first in their second drive of the game. Ole Miss scored on a four-yard touchdown run by quarterback Bo Wallace to take the early 7-0 lead, Wallace’s first touchdown run of the season. The scoring drive took five plays and accumulated for 69 yards, only taking 1:25 off the game clock.
Later in the first quarter, Wallace would add another touchdown run to his resume, scrambling for a 10-yard score to put Ole Miss up 14-0. The scoring drive started on the Ole Miss one-yard line and only took nine plays to add another seven points to the lead.
The “landshark” defense made a statement tonight against the high octane Texas A&M offense. The first statement was made in the second quarter when senior safety Cody Prewitt returned an interception 75 yards for the defensive touchdown to put the Rebels up 21-0 going into halftime.
Texas A&M would get on the board in the third quarter on a 14-play, 58-yard scoring drive, capped off by a three-yard touchdown run by running back Trey Williams to cut the Ole Miss lead to 21-7.
With 13 seconds to go in the third quarter, Wallace completed a 33-yard strike to sophomore wide receiver Quincy Adeboyejo on a beautiful pass in the end zone to make it 28-7 Ole Miss. The drive took over four minutes, going nine plays for 65 yards.
The second scoring play for the “landshark” defense was made by senior linebacker Keith Lewis, who recovered a fumble and took it 21 yards for the defensive score. The Ole Miss lead increased to 35-7.
Texas A&M would add two late touchdowns, but Ole Miss sealed the deal in their first true road game of the season to advance to 6-0 on the season.
