The University Police Department is investigating the alleged assault of an active Sigma Pi member.

Sources told The Daily Mississippian that the alleged incident took place Monday night on campus and members of another fraternity on campus were involved.

University Police Department Chief Tim Potts confirmed an incident is under investigation, but declined to provide details or a copy of the police report until its conclusion.

Jason Walker, executive director of Sigma Pi Fraternity International, said he cannot give any information regarding the incident at this time.

“We’re working toward a resolution,” Walker said. “We are letting the police handle this so we don’t interfere at all. We’re working with the parties involved in Oxford to resolve this issue.”

Brandi Hephner Labanc, vice chancellor for student affairs at the University of Mississippi, said she could only confirm that the investigation is ongoing.

Brandon Waite, president of Sigma Pi’s Ole Miss chapter, declined to discuss details.

“The police are currently investigating, and we are going to respect that,” Waite said.

The Daily Mississippian will continue to report on this story as it develops.
