Sports Editor Collin Brister (@CollinBrister) and sports writers Cody Thomason and Brian Rippee (@TheCodyThomason, (Rippee_2) discuss this week’s SEC games
Friday
Missouri at Arkansas (1:30 p.m. CBS)
Brian: Arkansas is coming off a gut wrenching loss to Mississippi state and will be looking to rebound on senior day. Missouri has been playing inspired football under Gary Pinkel in his final three games, but the Razorback offense will be too much for them to handle.
Arkansas 31 Missouri 10
Collin: Missouri is so bad on offense that they might score negative points. They are the worst offensive team I’ve seen since Houston Nutt.
Arkansas 28 Missouri 3
Cody: Missouri’s season is in turmoil while Arkansas tends to always play better near the end of the season. Arkansas should have a pretty easy victory.
Arkansas 21 Missouri 6
Saturday
Clemson at South Carolina (11 a.m. ESPN)
Brian: South Carolina lost to the Citadel last week (who?, yeah I know). I’ll be surprised if they show up this week ( I mean literally show up).
Clemson 38 South Carolina 3
Collin: My high school football coach used to tell us to take people out behind the wood shed. I didn’t really understand it, but we usually beat people pretty badly when he said that. South Carolina is going to find a wood shed. And the end of their season. Thank God.
Clemson-A lot South Carolina-LOL
Cody: South Carolina is playing with an interim head coach and having one of their worst seasons in years. Meanwhile is the number one team and vying for a playoff spot, this should be an easy win for them
Clemson 38 South Carolina 14
Georgia at Georgia Tech (11 a.m. ESPN2)
Brian: Georgia nearly lost to Georgia Southern last week. Georgia Southern gave them issue with the triple option offense, and the Bulldogs QB play is pretty much nonexistent. A loss will seal Mark Richt’s fate, if it hasn’t been already.
Georgia Tech 35 Georgia 20
Collin: Do you know what when you get two steaming hot piles of garbage and put them on a football field? This. Both teams are awful, and somehow Georgia has 8 wins. If Mark Richt isn’t fired this year, this man has more lives than a cat
Georgia 24 Georgia Tech 17
Cody: Georgia has been down ever since they lost Nick Chubb to injury, but Georgia Tech is unexpectedly having a terrible season. Anything can happen in a rivalry game, but Georgia should win.
Georgia 28 Georgia Tech 10
Louisville at Kentucky (11 a.m. SEC Network)
Brian: It’s been a frustrating year for Mark Stoops’ bunch after a promising 4-1 start, and the Cats are a win away from being bowl eligible. A win against your rival can give a big momentum boost going into the offseason, and I think Patrick Towels and Cats offense get it done.
Kentucky 28 Louisville 21
Collin: I thank God I don’t have to watch this. Kentucky is trying to get to a bowl game for like the billionth week in a row. I think this week ends up like the other billion.
Louisville 31 Kentucky 27
Cody: Louisville hasn’t had a very good season, but you have to think that they can beat Kentucky, who have been very disappointing. However, Kentucky is playing for bowl eligibility, so they will put everything they have into the game.
Kentucky 28 Louisville 24
Alabama at Auburn (2:30 p.m. CBS)
Brian: Ole Miss needs Auburn to pull the upset in order for them to have a shot at Atlanta. Gus Malzahn offenses have given Nick Saban and Kirby Smart fits over the years. The problem this year is that they don’t have a quarterback. People say crazier things have happened. I’m not sure what though.
Alabama 35 Auburn 14
Collin: Auburn is that ex-girlfriend that you’re going to text at 2:30 a.m. and ask “You up.” She’s not up. She’s never going to be up. She’s never going to text you back. It isn’t happening. The line is Alabama -14. Take it.
Alabama-38 Auburn 12
Cody: Anything can happen in the Iron Bowl, but it is been a down year for Auburn. The Crimson Tide should clinch the SEC West title with this win.
Alabama 31 Auburn 10
Vanderbilt at Tennessee (3 p.m. SEC Network)
Brian: Last week I got all high and mighty on the Vanderbilt defense. They didn’t play poorly, but the offense deciding to score zero points was a bold strategy. Tennessee loves to lose games like this. Derrick Mason’s team has come a long way, but I don’t think there is enough offense for them to beat the Vols.
Tennessee 24 Vanderbilt 7
Collin: Do y’all remember that time that Vanderbilt and Missouri played and set defenses back by about thirty years. I don’t like Tennessee, I won’t hide that. There is no way that Vanderbilt wins this game. It’s impossible to do that with 0 poitns.
Tennessee 20 Vanderbilt 0
Cody: Vanderbilt has seen some defensive improvements this season, but their offense is still pretty bad. Tennessee shouldn’t have too much difficulty winning this game.
Tennessee 28 Vanderbilt 7
Ole Miss at Mississippi State (6:15 p.m. ESPN2)
Brian: For the first time ever, maybe, you could accurately label the Egg Bowl as a quarterback duel. Chad Kelly and Dak Prescott have been the SEC’s two best QB’s this year, and this should be a fun one to watch (unless you’re like me, and will spend the whole game with your stomach in knots). The home team has won 11 of the last 12 in this series, but I think it would be hard to argue that Ole Miss isn’t more talented across the board
Ole Miss 38 Mississippi State 20
Collin: The home team wins almost every single year. It’s really hard to pick against the home team this year. The thing is, however, the only reason I could justify picking Mississippi State to win this game. I think Ole Miss is more talented across the board.
Ole Miss 31 Mississippi State 28
Cody: The winner of the Egg Bowl is usually the home team, but the Rebels have a great chance to change that this year. The Rebel offense will have to have a great day, but they should get the edge in this one.
Ole Miss 34 Mississippi State 27
Florida State at Florida (6:30 p.m. ESPN)
Brian: This is a really intriguing matchup. Florida is headed to Atlanta next week no matter what, but a loss would end their playoff chances. The Gators have looked very bad the last couple of weeks, especially on the offensive side of the football. But this team just seems to find a way to win games. I think Jim McElwain’s storybook first season writes another positive chapter at home.
Florida 17 Florida State 14
Collin: Treon Harris is really bad at this whole quarterbacking thing. Florida State isn’t South Carolina or Vanderbilt, either.
Florida State-23 Florida 10
Cody: Florida state at Florida: Florida State has underwhelmed this season, while Florida’s season has been a pleasant surprise, with the Gators going 10-1 and winning the SEC East. That being said, Florida’s offense has been unspectacular since losing quarterback Will Grier.
Texas A&M at LSU (6:30 p.m. SEC Network)
Brian: I’ve never called a football game awkward, but this game just feels awkward to me. LSU’s handling of the Les Miles situation has been odd to say the least, and I have no idea what to make of Texas A&M still. All signs point that Miles will be relieved of his duties as early as Monday, and I think LSU puts up an inspired effort. Fournette will be wear down the Aggie defense, and Brandon Harris will be just good enough (or just not bad enough) to give the Mad Hatter one last in Death Valley, though I hope it isn’t his last.
LSU 24 Texas A&M 17
Collin: I’m going to miss Les Miles. Les and me go back. From him deciding to snap the ball in Oxford in 2009, to him eating the grass in Tiger Stadium, I love Les Miles. I make no bones about it. I hope he lands on his feet with the 15 million they’re going to give him to leave. Let’s do it, Les
LSU 28 Texas A&M 24
Cody: LSU has uncharacteristically lost three games in a row. However, each of those teams presents more of a challenge than Texas A&M. LSU should be able to break their slump and get a win against the Aggies.
LSU 28 Texas A&M 20
