A students competes in a past Ole Miss Idol competition
The ninth year of Ole Miss Idol will start on Wednesday at 7 p.m., as 43 students will compete in first-auditions in the Student Union Food Court.
The Student Programming Board puts on the singing competition, which is sponsored by Papa John’s and the Department of Campus Programming.
For the audition round, each student will be asked to perform a song of their choice. The quarterfinal round will take place Feb. 20. In this round, contestants will be asked to sing a song made famous by an artist of the opposite gender.
The semifinals will take place Feb. 27 and will have a ‘90s theme.
Each round, half of the contestants will be eliminated.
The final three contestants will advance to the finals on March 6, during which they will sing another song of their choice.
Co-Director of Special Events Peter Englert said, “This year, Miss University, Caroline Conerly, will be a judge, along with two others with musical backgrounds that will be announced at a later date.”
All rounds will take place at 7 p.m. in the Student Union Food Court.
This year’s winner will walk away with a $500 cash prize and the bragging rights that come along with being named Ole Miss Idol 2013.
