The Associated Student Body has removed the supply of Scantrons from the J.D. Williams Library for the 2013-14 school year.
“The Associated Student Body is in charge of giving out the Scantrons that we have in our office,” said ASB President Gregory Alston. “I believe that it is very important that we practice good stewardship of our resources. We have Scantrons that are free of charge in the ASB office on the fourth floor of the Union, and we will continue to have them for the rest of the 2013-2014 school year.”
According to Alston, the reasoning for this is that giving them out from the office in the Union prevents the possibility of other departments losing or running out of them.
The ASB has been giving Scantrons to the library for two years. According to Stanley K. Whitehorn, head of access services/operations manager at the J.D. Williams Library, Scantrons go quickly, with three being given out per person per day.
Sophomore library employee Katherine Cole has watched the Scantrons disappear quickly in the mornings until noon.
Cole said the scantrons disappeared in the summer and were never returned.
Sophomore liberal studies major Mary Stamper Grogan, who has been getting Scantrons from the library since her freshman year, is very upset about their disappearance.
“When I am in the library, studying for a test, I usually go straight to the front desk and pick up a Scantron on my way out to take (the test),” Grogan said. “It is inconvenient for any student to go out of their way to the Student Union just to get a Scantron.”
Alston said the luxury of free scantrons can be delivered more efficiently by pulling the scantrons from the library.
“If the Scantrons are centralized and in one place, we will be able to distribute them more efficiently,” Alston said.
