This will be the group’s first Oxford show, but frontman Josh Hoyer said they are optimistic about the performance. They love the South, he said, and their sound certainly represents that. Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal’s music is full of energy and heart. Their performance at Proud Larry’s will boast their all-original funky, self-proclaimed “electric” music.

The band started three years ago in Lincoln, Nebraska, when they set out to make the funkiest soul and R&B they possibly could, and Hoyer said that they are still set to accomplish that. One of the band’s foremost goals is to touch, encourage and inspire all people with the power of music.
Their songwriting includes deep musings on life, love, politics, oppression, universal truth and the mystery of it all. These guys aren’t rookies — they have several national tours under their belt.

The band has recorded two albums and is working on their third, full-length album, called “Running from Love,” which will be released on April 8. It is their most ambitious project to date and will feature Hoyer’s honest trademark vocals and the band’s signature groovy sound.

“The funky, groove-laden tracks and soulful ballads each take listeners on a journey through the struggle to find contentment, the desire to change the world in front us for the better and the universal need for more love,” Josh Hoyer said.
Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal takes honest lyrics and meaningful, impassioned tunes and combines them with a deep R&B baseline to create artfully energetic music. Hoyer’s bluesy voice takes troubles away and takes listeners on a sweet soul trip.
The six-piece band continues to test the boundaries of music by playing a plethora of styles, bigger and better each time. Over the past three years, Hoyer said the band has progressed as artists by working at being better listeners and communicators every day.

Hoyer said the band sees itself, hopefully, in a year playing at Bernie Sanders’ Inaugural Ball. Of the many adjectives one could use to describe the band’s music, Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal’s sound is best be described by their band’s name. The soul they invoke and share is simply colossal.

Doors open at 9 p.m.
