Ole Miss Soccer improved to 5-1 on the season after sweeping the Jaguar Classic with victories over Troy and South Alabama over the weekend.
The Rebels came away with a 5-2 victory on Thursday over the Troy Trojans to start the Classic. The high-scoring offense had another strong showing with CeCe Kizer continuing her hot start with a dominating performance, adding two more goals to her early season tally.
Ole Miss was down early before Kizer equalized in the 21st minute. Channing Foster added a goal from the penalty spot to give the Rebels a 2-1 lead headed into halftime. Troy’s goal in the first half was the only first half goal Ole Miss has conceded all season.
Haleigh Stackpole made it a 3-1 contest as snagged her third goal of the season to open up the second half. Ole Miss then traded goals with Troy before senior Marisa Kutchma capped off the win with her first goal of 2018.
Ole Miss finished the classic with a competitive 2-1 win over the Jaguars on Sunday. Foster scored a goal for her third consecutive game and senior Mary Kate Smith got off the mark with a goal in the 11th minute.
This weekend, the Rebel offense continued to put the ball in the back of the net at a high rate with 21 goals after six games. While the team didn’t add any clean sheets to its record, the Rebels have outscored opponents 21-5 thus far.
CeCe Kizer is the team’s leading scorer with seven, which has her top of the NCAA leaderboard as of Aug. 31. Sophomore Channing Foster and freshman Haleigh Stackpole tied for the team’s second with three. Gabby Little, a junior, is the leading facilitator with three assists.
The two wins in the Jaguar Classic put Ole Miss on a three-game winning streak. The team now has three more matches remaining on its five game road trip — two in Fayetteville, Arkansas, against UConn and FAU, and the finale coming against Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
