In this week’s installment, The Daily Mississippian’s sports editor David Collier will rank the 14 Southeastern Conference teams. Opponents, game times and television networks are also included for each team.
1. Alabama (3-0, 1-0 SEC, 1st last week)
The Crimson Tide did what they had to do and won 31-6 over Colorado State. We still haven’t seen this team play its best game though.
This week: Ole Miss (3-0, 1-0 SEC), 5:30 p.m., ESPN
2. Georgia (2-1, 1-0 SEC, 2nd last week)
The Bulldogs got tested but pulled away from North Texas, 45-21. Now, Georgia gets another chance for a big win in September.
This week: LSU (4-0, 1-0 SEC), 2:30 p.m., CBS
3. LSU (4-0, 1-0 SEC, 3rd last week)
The Tigers controlled Saturday’s 35-21 win over Auburn, and we will finally get to see LSU tested for the first time this weekend.
This week: at Georgia (2-1, 1-0 SEC), 2:30 p.m., CBS
4. South Carolina (2-1, 1-1 SEC, 4th last week)
The Gamecocks got a much-needed week off, and we’ll see if star defensive end Jadeveon Clowney feels better this weekend.
This week: at Central Florida (3-0), 11 a.m., ABC
5. Texas A&M (3-1, 0-1 SEC, 5th last week)
The Aggies rolled through SMU 42-13. Now, we get to see Texas A&M and Arkansas actually play at one of the school’s stadiums.
This week: at Arkansas (3-1), 6 p.m., ESPN2
6. Ole Miss (3-0, 1-0 SEC, 6th last week)
The Rebels had a much-needed bye week to get rested up. Now, Ole Miss will try to shake up the college football world with a win this weekend.
This week: at Alabama (3-0, 1-0 SEC), 5:30 p.m., ESPN
7. Florida (2-1, 1-0 SEC, 7th last week)
The Gators beat Tennessee, 31-17, thanks to backup quarterback Tyler Murphy. He could be the spark plug the Florida offense needs.
This week: at Kentucky (1-2), 6 p.m., ESPNU
8. Vanderbilt (2-2, 0-2 SEC, 8th last week)
The Commodores won 24-7, but it wasn’t pretty. Vanderbilt has another cupcake game to get things ironed out before the thick of the schedule.
This week: UAB (1-2), 6:30 p.m., FSN
9. Missouri (3-0, 10th last week)
The Tigers got a solid road win at Indiana, winning 45-28. The Tigers are improved this year and ready to make some noise in the SEC.
This week: Arkansas State (2-2), 6:30 p.m., CSS
10. Auburn (3-1, 1-1 SEC, 9th last week)
The Tigers put up a fight, but really never had a shot in their 35-21 loss to LSU. Now, they get a bye week before a big game against Ole Miss.
This week: BYE
11. Mississippi State (2-2, 0-1 SEC, 11th last week)
Behind Dak Prescott, Mississippi State blew out Troy, 62-7. Will Prescott be able to keep the Bulldog offense going all year? We’ll see.
This week: BYE
12. Arkansas (3-1, 12th last week)
The Razorbacks saw a solid win slip through their fingers and took a 28-24 loss at Rutgers. Now, they get to chase Johnny Football around.
This week: Texas A&M (3-1, 0-1 SEC), 6 p.m., ESPN2
13. Tennessee (2-2, 0-1 SEC, 13th last week)
The Volunteers’ struggles continued in their 31-17 loss to Florida. Tennessee used two quarterbacks and have a lot of questions going forward.
This week: South Alabama (2-1), 11:21 a.m., SEC Network
14. Kentucky (1-2, 14th last week)
The Wildcats are still in rebuilding mode, so this weekend they get a free shot to upset a team that has been ugly on offense so far.
This week: Florida (2-1, 1-0 SEC), 6 p.m., ESPNU
