SEC Football Power Poll

Posted on Oct 2 2013 - 6:35am by David Collier

In this week’s installment, The Daily Mississippian’s sports editor David Collier will rank the 14 Southeastern Conference teams. Opponents, game times and television networks are also included for each team.

1. Alabama (4-0, 2-0 SEC, 1st last week)

Alabama’s defense dominated in their 25-0 win over Ole Miss. Looks as though only LSU stands between another trip to Atlanta.

This week: Georgia State (0-4), 11:21 a.m., SEC Network

2. Georgia (3-1, 2-0 SEC, 2nd last week)

The Bulldogs won a 44-41 thriller at home over LSU, but Georgia’s defense could become a problem down the road.

This week: at Tennessee (3-2, 0-1 SEC), 2:30 p.m., CBS

3. LSU (4-1, 1-1 SEC, 3rd last week)

The Tigers offense proved they are the real deal, and despite their 44-41 loss to Georgia, they’re goals are still within reach.

This week: at Mississippi State (2-2, 0-1 SEC), 6 p.m., ESPN

4. Texas A&M (4-1, 1-1 SEC, 5th last week)

The Aggies outscored Arkansas 45-33, but their defensive struggles keep appearing week after week.

This week: BYE

5. South Carolina (3-1, 1-1 SEC, 4th last week)

It wasn’t an easy win for South Carolina, but the Gamecocks survived 28-25 at UCF despite Connor Shaw getting injured.

This week: Kentucky (1-3, 0-1 SEC), 6:30 p.m., FSN

6. Florida (3-1, 2-0 SEC, 7th last week)

The Gators won 24-7 at Kentucky, but plenty of questions remain with the lackluster Florida offense going forward.

This week: Arkansas (3-2, 0-1 SEC), 6 p.m., ESPN2

7. Ole Miss (3-1, 1-1 SEC, 6th last week)

The Rebels were uncharacteristically bad on offense in their 25-0 loss at Alabama. Offense should get going again Saturday.

This week: at Auburn (3-1, 1-1 SEC), 6 p.m., ESPNU

8. Vanderbilt (3-2, 0-2 SEC, 8th last week)

The Commodores beat UAB 52-24 and have a big chance to get their first win in the SEC this season on Saturday.

This week: Missouri (4-0), 6:30 p.m., CSS

9. Missouri (4-0, 10th last week)

The Tigers beat Arkansas State 41-19, and we finally get to see what this Missouri team is made of as they face off at Vandy.

This week: at Vanderbilt (3-2, 0-2 SEC), 6:30 p.m., CSS

10. Mississippi State (2-2, 0-1 SEC, 11th last week)

The Bulldogs have had two weeks to get ready for LSU, but they will need a near perfect game to knock of the Tigers.

This week: LSU (4-1, 1-1 SEC), 6 p.m., ESPN

11.  Auburn (3-1, 1-1 SEC, 10th last week)

The Tigers should have some new wrinkles ready for Ole Miss this weekend in a matchup between two close head coaching friends.

This week: BYE

12. Arkansas (3-2, 0-1 SEC, 12th last week)

The Razorbacks gave Texas A&M all they could handle, but Arkansas went down 45-33. The schedule doesn’t get any easier either.

This week: at Florida (3-1, 2-0 SEC), 6 p.m., ESPN2

13. Tennessee (3-2, 0-1 SEC, 13th last week)

The Volunteers hung on for a 31-24 win over South Alabama, and things could get ugly with Georgia coming to town this weekend.

This week: Georgia (3-1, 2-0 SEC), 2:30 p.m., CBS

14. Kentucky (1-3, 0-1 SEC, 14th last week)

The Wildcats lost 24-7 to Florida, and the schedule won’t do a rebuilding Kentucky team any favors this season.

This week: at South Carolina (3-1, 1-1 SEC), 6:30 p.m., FSN
