SEC Football Power Poll: Week 4

Posted on Sep 27 2012 - 5:47pm by Lacey Russell

1. Alabama (4-0, 1-0 SEC, 1st last week)

The Crimson Tide had another dominant outing last week, defeating Florida Atlantic 40-7. Alabama looks like the team to beat in the SEC.

This week: Ole Miss (3-1), 8:15 p.m., ESPN

2. LSU (4-0, 1-0 SEC, 2nd last week)

It was a lot closer than most anticipated, but LSU got a road win at Auburn 12-10. Offense once again appears to be a question mark going forward for the Tigers.

This week: Towson (2-1), 6 p.m., ESPNU

3. Georgia (4-0, 2-0 SEC, 3rd last week)

The Bulldogs didn’t disappoint last Saturday, cruising to a 48-3 win over Vanderbilt. It should be a good battle between Georgia and South Carolina next week.

This week: Tennessee (3-1, 0-1 SEC), 2:30 p.m., CBS

4. South Carolina (4-0, 2-0 SEC, 4th last week)

Steve Spurrier’s squad looked really impressive against Missouri as they came out with a 31-10 win. The Gamecock defense should lead them all season long.

This week: at Kentucky (1-3, 0-1 SEC), 6 p.m., ESPN2

5. Florida (4-0, 3-0 SEC, 5th last week)

The Gators continue to impress, walking away with a 38-0 win over Kentucky last week. Florida has been the surprise team of the SEC so far and looks to be a legitimate contender in the East.

This week: OPEN

6. Tennessee (3-1, 0-1 SEC, 6th last week)

The Volunteers struggled against Akron, but a strong finish pushed them to a 47-26 victory. Tennessee has some areas to improve on to reach their full potential.

This week: at Georgia (4-0, 2-0), 2:30 p.m., CBS

7. Texas A&M (2-1, 0-1 SEC, 8th last week)

Kevin Sumlin’s offense has been putting up a lot of points this season, but defeating South Carolina State 70-14 doesn’t say what they’ll do in the SEC. The Aggies have a chance for a big win this weekend.

This week: Arkansas (1-3, 0-1 SEC), 11:21 a.m., SEC Network

8. Mississippi State (4-0, 1-0 SEC, 9th last week)

The Bulldogs are off to a 4-0 start after taking down South Alabama 30-10. Dan Mullen and company haven’t proven themselves against a tough opponent yet, but they may not have to with a favorable schedule.

This week: OPEN

9. Missouri (2-2, 0-2 SEC, 7th last week)

The Tigers laid another egg against an SEC East opponent, losing 31-10 to South Carolina. Missouri has experienced the SEC firsthand, and we’ll see how they respond the remainder of the season.

This week: at Central Florida (2-1), 11 a.m., FSN

10. Auburn (1-3, 0-2 SEC, 11th last week)

The Tigers took a big step forward last weekend playing nose to nose with LSU, but Auburn lost 12-10. Fans at Auburn won’t be happy unless they get back on track. A bye week couldn’t have come at a better time for the Tigers.

This week: OPEN

11. Arkansas (1-3, 0-1 SEC, 10th last week)

Things went from bad to worse for Arkansas as the Razorbacks fell to Rutgers 35-26. It’s going to be a tough task with a struggling defense to go into Texas A&M and get a win against the Aggies high-powered offense.

This week: at Texas A&M (2-1, 0-1 SEC), 11:21 a.m., SEC Network

12. Ole Miss (3-1, 12th last week)

The Rebels got back in the win column and surpassed last year’s win total with a 39-0 win over Tulane last weekend. Ole Miss now opens SEC play, but it appears to be an impossible task against Alabama. It will interesting to see how the Rebels perform in their second huge opportunity of the season.

This week: at Alabama (4-0, 1-0 SEC), 8:15 p.m., ESPN

13. Vanderbilt (1-3, 0-2 SEC, 13th last week)

The Commodores got handed a 48-3 beating by Georgia last Saturday, and head coach James Franklin has some work to do to get his team believing in themselves again. Vanderbilt has a bye week to try to get things together.

This week: OPEN

14. Kentucky (1-3, 0-1 SEC, 14th last week)

Joker Phillips and the Wildcats didn’t get off to a good start in SEC play, getting defeated 38-0 to Florida. There aren’t a whole lot of positives to build off for Kentucky, and things don’t get easier with South Carolina coming to town.

This week: South Carolina (4-0, 2-0 SEC), 6 p.m., ESPN2
