The University Police Department released a statement late Thursday night saying they are aware of recent social media activity that has “heightened anxiety” regarding the Students Against Social Injustice “Students Over Statues” march scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday.

“Related security measures have been taken, and safety remains our first priority,” the statement read.

The statement came after Billy Sessions, leader of Confederate 901, made a video cursing at several minority student organizations.

In the video, Sessions also said quite a few members of his group were going to “visit Lamar Hall at 3 p.m.,” which is the time of SASI’s protest.

The Associated Student Body released a statement on social media at 8:55 p.m. Thursday night which said they have been told there will be increased security on campus.

“ASB is working to make sure that all student concerns are being heard by the University leadership,” the statement read. “We will be updating students as soon as we hear more.”
