The Ole Miss softball team will travel to South Carolina on Friday to take on the Gamecocks in a three game series.
The Rebels (19-15, 3-6 Southeastern Conference) lost a heartbreaker at UT-Martin Tuesday evening when Taylor Manning of the Skyhawks stole home to take the game 3-2 from the Rebels. Junior Ole Miss pitcher Lauren Lindsey started her second game of the season and pitched a career-high 6.2 innings. She allowed just one earned run and struck out three.
The Gamecocks (19-12, 2-7 SEC) used three home runs to claim a 10-0 win over Furman to sweep Tuesday’s doubleheader at Carolina Softball Stadium in Columbia.
Ole Miss will have to keep the Gamecock offense in check. Six of the Gamecocks are batting over .300. Senior utility player Ashlyn Masters leads the team in batting average at .385, sports a .637 slugging percentage and leads the team in doubles with 13. Her doubles mark ranks second in the SEC. Junior catcher Sarah Mooney has belted a team-high eight home runs and also has a .658 slugging percentage.
Defensively for the Rebels, seniors Carly Hummel and Shelby Jo Fenter both have ERAs under 3.00 and opponent batting averages of .230 or lower. The Rebels are looking to improve their SEC record and continue to work toward their overall goal of making the NCAA tournament.
First pitch is set for 5 p.m. Friday in Columbia.
