Saturday: Ole Miss 7 Southern Miss 0
The Rebels defeated Southern Miss 7-0 Saturday afternoon. The Rebels struggled at No. 1 doubles, but they crushed the Eagles In No. 2 and No. 3 doubles 6-3 and 6-2 respectively.
Stefan Lindmark (OM) led the way in singles by beating Tarun Surat (USMM) 6-4, 6-3. The rest of the Rebels followed suit. Ole Miss won every single singles match in straight sets. A few of the first sets were close and had to be resolved by way of a tie breaker, but the Rebels looked dominant in Saturday’s match.
Sunday: Memphis 4 Ole Miss 3
Sunday’s match did not go so well for the Rebels; they fell to the Memphis Tigers 4-3. The rain forced the match indoors at the Gillom Center.
The Rebels looked good at first against Memphis winning the No. 1 doubles led by Filip Kraljevic and Zvonimir Babic 6-3, but the Tigers took doubles No. 2 and 3 to take the doubles point.
The Rebels bounced back quickly, however, and won No. 1 singles as Stefan Lindmark (OM) defeated Andrew Watson (UM) 6-3, 7-6.
That was the only good news for the Rebels. Memphis dominated the rest of the match. Memphis looked really good in the rest of the singles matches.
The only singles match that was particularly close was number three when Kai Lemke from Memphis defeated Gustav Hansson in three sets 6-3, 2-6, 6-2, resulting in a 4-1 Tiger victory.
The Rebels are now 0-2 on the season when they lose the doubles point.
Stefan Lindmark recorded his 70th career victory in the match.The Rebels play their final match of this home stretch, and their final non-conference match Feb. 26 versus South Alabama at 3 p.m.
This will be a very important match for the Rebels. The Rebels are now 4-2 on the season. The match against Southern Alabama provides Ole Miss with a chance to pick up another win, and fine tune a few things before they open SEC play in Kentucky.
Kentucky is 7-2 on the year and has notable victories over Indiana, Duke, and Michigan The Wildcats will prove to be a formidable opponent for the Rebels as they have defeated Ole Miss two out of the last three matches that the two have squared off.
The Rebels currently have the fifth-best record in the SEC behind Arkansas, Texas A&M, Kentucky, Auburn and Mississippi State.
